Taylor Swift is known for a lot of things. She’s won a bunch of awards, she’s made countless chart-topping hits, and she may or may not be dating Travis Kelce.
While those are the things she’s most famous for, she’s also dabbled in acting.
I’m not talking about just her music videos, either. That’s right, your favorite love-scorned pop star has been in some pretty big films – and some weren’t too shabby, either.
But what were the best Taylor Swift movies that are actually worth your time? Well, if you’re a Swifty, you’ll probably like them all.
However, I’ll help you out by ranking my favorite five Taylor Swift films. And if you want my take on her music library, check out my Taylor Swift song rankings.
5. Cats (2019)
Even if you’re a huge Taylor Swift fan, there’s little that is redeeming about Cats. That said, she gave it a go in what was meant to be a fun reboot of the hit play.
Swift hit the big screen as Bombalurina, an alluring and flirtatious feline that was far from the worst part of the film.
In addition to her role, Swift offered her musical talents to the movie’s soundtrack, and she got a key credit in a film she was passionate about.
Knock the movie all you want, but Swift played her part well, and you certainly can’t say anything negative about what she contributed musically.
The CGI-laden affair delivered a regrettable 19% critics score at Rotten Tomatoes, but I’d give Swift a passing grade here.
4. Valentine’s Day (2010)
Let’s take a step back about a decade, where Swift had her first big break in a feature film. This isn’t in contention for Taylor Swift’s best movie, but Cats did set a pretty low bar to beat.
Shockingly enough, this movie actually graded out even worse than Cats, but I’d argue it’s amazing cast and lack of abrasive CGI make it a little less suffocating.
Plus, we get to see a fun relationship dynamic between Swift and Twilight superstar, Taylor Lautner.
Their chemistry is admittedly lacking, but that’s kind of the point.
Swift’s story is just one of many in this interconnected collage of love stories, but it’s a movie that is much more relatable and arguably a bit more engaging than Cats.
I wouldn’t dare rank it any higher in my list of the top Taylor Swift movies to watch, of course.
3. The Giver (2014)
If you haven’t already, stop what you’re doing and go read The Giver. This film doesn’t do the legendary book justice, so while it’s one of the best movies with Taylor Swift in it, the book wins by a mile.
Still, it’s a solid dystopian drama that raises some interesting questions and talking points. It also briefly features the angelic Swift in a haunting scene.
Swift doesn’t have a long stay as Rosemary in The Giver, but she nails her role and she’s a small piece to a larger, underrated puzzle.
The Giver only got a 35% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, but it feels like the critics are being a bit too harsh here. Jeff Bridges helps carry this film, and while it didn’t deliver the way it could have when considering the powerful source material, it’s still a solid watch.
She’s not in in for long, but this is definitely one of the top Taylor Swift films you can watch.
2. Amsterdam (2022)
While The Giver was mildly underrated, Amsterdam’s Rotten Tomatoes score (32%) was a total slap in the face.
Maybe the critics thought they were getting something else, but the story we did get was actually perfectly engaging, mysterious, thrilling, and fulfilling.
Anytime you can piece together an all-star cast featuring Christian Bale, John David Washington, and Margot Robbie, I think you have something.
Add in a little murder and intrigue, and we’re cooking’ with gas.
Once again, this isn’t a Taylor Swift movie where she’s the star of the show. However, she shows up early and leaves her mark.
In fact, Swift is a catalyst for a pretty captivating story that is loaded with talent and tells a good story. I truly believe this film suffers from high expectations and people wanting to complain about something.
This isn’t one of the best Taylor Swift movies in terms of screen time, but she does a fine job here, and the movie is a solid watch.
1. The Lorax (2012)
Lastly, we come to without a doubt the best Taylor Swift movie of all-time. She’s had brief moments in more thrilling or dramatic entries, but this is probably the most complete film she’s been a part of.
It’s a little disappointing that her role isn’t larger or that it’s an animated movie, but still.
Swift does a terrific job in the role of Audrey, who is the love interest of the film’s main character. We only get to hear her voice in this one, but she passed with flying colors and the movie as a whole is rock solid.
Zac Efron and Ed Helms both play their parts well, while Danny DeVito doesn’t disappoint as the voice of The Lorax, either.
The Lorax scored poorly (54%) in the eyes of the critics, but they’re grading this Dr. Seuss classic too harshly. The public was a bit more reasonable (63%), but even that felt a bit low.
Scoring aside, this is probably the best Taylor Swift movie you can watch. If you want to see her outside of animation, of course, I’d roll with Amsterdam first.
There could be a lot more Taylor Swift movies on their way. She is still a massive superstar and in her prime at 33, so what she does next on screen all comes down to how much she wants to act.
The talent and name recognition is there, but hopefully Swift gets a few better opportunities so I can update this list in the not too distant future.
