John Wick 4 is in the bag. John Wick 5 may not be too far around the corner. Somewhere in between, however, you’re going to need your Keanu fix.

The aging Hollywood icon may be up for more ass-kicking in the near future, but you just got done seeing John Wick 4 and you’ve got nothing else to do.

More specifically, whether you’ve seen the latest John Wick or not, you’ve got a hankering for some of the best Keanu Reeves movies out there. The question, of course, is which ones are actually worth your time?

Any Keanu Reeves movie rankings are going to be subjective, but I’ll blend critic ratings, audience score, and my own personal film grades to give you the 5 best Keanu Reeves movies you need to watch next.

5. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989)

Sometimes you just need to go back and start at the beginning. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure was far from Keanu’s first movie, but it’s easily the one that put him on the map.

Equal parts stupid and hilarious, the first Bill & Ted truly took audiences on, well, an adventure, putting two unlikely heroes on a time travel quest.

This is definitely an 80s throwback that arguably doesn’t age terribly well, but it’s an iconic comedy that was a little bit ahead of it’s time.

You also get to see Keanu Reeves in a comedic role if you’re used to seeing him kill a bunch of bad guys.

It’s not the best Keanu Reeves movie, but it’s probably the best comedy he’s been in, and it’s certainly a cult classic.

4. Point Break (1991)

Not necessarily the most cerebral actor, most of the best Keanu Reeves films were admittedly blockbuster flicks where he leaned more on his good looks and some intense action.

That’s certainly the driving force behind Point Break, where Reeves plays undercover cop Johnny Utah.

With a name like that, this movie had to be good, am I right?

And good it was, as Reeves was perfect as the stiff but cool under pressure Utah, who was tasked with infiltrating a surfer gang to get to the bottom of a string of masked-president robberies.

Patrick Swayze carries the film, but the two actors exhibit impeccable chemistry and work together to form a genuine bond that delivers some touching moments – as well as one heck of an ending.

Reeves also has a love interest in the film, while Gary Busey plays a key role in support.

Beyond the acting and story, Point Break is simply a ton of fun. Action-packed with rarely a dull moment, Point Break isn’t thick on substance, but it over-flows with fun and intensity.

Reeves doesn’t always stand out in all of his movies, but he more than holds his own opposite an arguably much bigger Hollywood star.

3. John Wick (2014)

I could include every John Wick film in my Keanu Reeves movie rankings, but that’d get boring in a hurry. Just believe me when I tell you that it’s a fantastic franchise, and that every single film in the series is worth watching.

None are more important as the original, of course, as we’re first introduced to John Wick and his plight.

A retired assassin, Wick has had a life filled with loss and regret, but he’s found a way to leave the darkness behind and find some peace.

That’s until some bad guys show up and kill his dog.

Needless to say, John Wick is awoken, and the rest is history.

He goes on quite the killing spree, which opens up a big can of worms. It makes for loads of fun, though, as well as some of the best fight choreography (and creative death scenes) in film-making history.

John Wick would have been a worthy mention among action blockbusters for the rest of time. The fact that it was the launching pad for a massively successfully franchise is perhaps what makes it most interesting.

2. Speed (1994)

Are there other good Keanu Reeves movies that are better than John Wick? Yeah, the other John Wick movies are certainly on the table for that debate, but there are quite a few older flicks that deserve a higher spot.

For now, at least.

Perhaps one day I’ll change my mind and update my Keanu Reeves movie rankings. For now, I’ll slide Speed into the #2 slot, simply because it’s probably the actor’s most raw action movie of his career.

A lot of what we see in the top Keanu Reeves movies isn’t very believable in a real life setting. Of course, the bus jump in Speed isn’t too realistic, either.

But I digress.

The point here is Speed kept things in a (relatively) realistic setting, where a shot shot cop works fast to save a bus full of innocent passengers.

Dennis Hopper operates as a fantastic villain, while Reeves also displays strong chemistry with professional scene-stealer, Sandra Bullock.

Speed furthered Reeves’ career as a blockbuster movie icon, and also played a huge hand in putting Bullock on the map. It’s a timeless 90s action classic that still holds up, even in the current days of CGI-laden films.

1. The Matrix (1999)

The previously mentioned films are undoubtedly some of the best Keanu Reeves movies, but they don’t rank number one in my opinion.

That spot belongs to The Matrix, which happens to be the top Keanu Reeves movie out there.

If you haven’t seen this movie, you absolutely need to, as it revolutionized action blockbusters, and gave the audience a truly unique sci-fi tale to latch onto.

The Matrix follows Neo (Reeves), as a regular guy just wasting his life away in an office. However, he establishes a connection with someone teasing something “bigger” and he takes the bait.

As it turns out, it wasn’t someone pulling his leg. Neo quickly learns that life as he knew it simply wasn’t real, and he is given the choice to forget it, or proceed into the unknown.

The rest is history, as Neo awakens into the “real” world and becomes an unstoppable force in his plight to save humanity in a battle against dominant machines.

It’s a truly iconic blockbuster film with endless one-liners, unforgettable action sequences, and some spot on acting by Reeves.

Reeves was 100% perfect for this role, as he executed the “deer in the headlights” part of his character, but also was badass in his fight scenes and pulled off being the hero as well as always.

Other Keanu Reeves Movies You Should Watch

  • The Devil’s Advocate (1997)
  • John Wick 2 & 3
  • Constantine
  • Matrix 3 & 4
  • Bill & Ted 2 & 3

Reeves has been around for forever, so there’s no denying there’s a long list of movies he’s made that you may want to check out.

He’s part of a few different successful franchises, too. Any John Wick, Matrix, or Bill & Ted movie that didn’t make my list is still worth watching.

Constantine wasn’t perfect, but it was probably an underrated gem. Reeves was also great in it, and the same can be said for The Devil’s Advocate, which also happens to feature the legendary Al Pacino.

That said, I feel I’ve nudged you toward the very best Keanu Reeves movies. If you haven’t seen them yet, be sure to do so, and keep an eye out for whatever projects he pushes out next.
