There are a lot of great Billie Eilish songs that could contend for the 5th spot to begin my Billie Eilish song rankings.
Ocean Eyes, Bellyache, Therefore I am – and so many more – are viable replacements and would absolutely make the cut if this were the top 10 Billie Eilish songs.
Unfortunately, I’m keeping this as a Billie Eilish song shortlist. If you’re just getting started with listening to her material or want to get the very best Billie Eilish songs, this is the list I’d hand you.
That has me starting with Everything I Wanted, which is really haunting, but also poetic.
It dives into deep themes like loneliness and pressure from outside forces, while the pace of the song really plays into Eilish’s harrowing tone.
Everything I Wanted delivers an ominous feel from the very start, while Eilish casts over it a sorrow-filled shadow. It’s a beautiful and reflective song that will catch you in deep though long after it’s finished playing.
4. When the Party’s Over
Eilish truly broke out as a star with her album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, while one of her biggest hits was this emotionally cutting ballad.
Backed by perfectly paced piano placement, Eilish’s powerful lyrics and somber tone resonate with listeners who’ve dealt with vulnerability, loss, or insecurity.
3. Bury a Friend
Another massive hit from the same album that made her a star, Bury a Friend is a clash of upbeat vocals, experimental sound-mixing, and maccabre themes.
Eilish doesn’t miss a beat in a constantly changing song that hits you from all angles, while exploring deep rooted wounds and general darkness.
If you’re looking for a sign of Eilish’s versatility and vulnerability as an artist, they is one of the best songs to see her at her collective best. It also happens to be one of her most underrated songs, as a whole.
2. Bad Guy
Most would expect to see Bad Guy top my Billie Eilish song rankings. It understandably comes close, and I’d hear any argument to place it that high.
While it doesn’t take my top spot, Bad Guy in a sense revolutionized how we look at high-end music, and it’s admittedly what separated Eilish from the pack.
It stemmed from one of the greatest albums we’ve ever seen, and was arguably the banner hit that helped elevate her to the level where she’s at now.
Other Billie Eilish tracks are more captivating or somber, but Bad Guy explores emotional themes while delivering an insanely catchy chorus, a fun melody, and some dark humor.
Bad Guy will live on forever no matter what Eilish accomplishes from here. It may not ultimately define her as an artist, but at the time of this writing, it’s undeniably her biggest hit.
1. No Time to Die
Bad Guy is probably Eilish’s most iconic song, but it’s not her best. Other tracks made her famous, but No Time to Die, the title song for the latest James Bond film, is what takes the cake for me.
This song is positively dripping with emotion. It’s also incredibly haunting, perfectly paced, and helps elevate an underrated blockbuster film.
Perfectly paced and propped up by Eilish’s defeated tone, No Time to Die is an amazing backdrop for Daniel Craig’s final turn as Agent 007, while the song also survives on it’s own.
There is so much raw emotion and depth to unpack here, while the song also picks up beautifully and ends with a bang.
The chorus also ascends into a nightmare episode of immeasurable loss. Few artists could have pulled this off like Eilish. It stands as a fairly simplistic track, but puts her tone, emotion, and pacing on fully display.
There you have it – the top Billie Eilish songs ranked. I am sure some will disagree with the order of my Billie Eilish song rankings, and there’s bound to be criticism over the top spot.
However, I was infatuated with No Time to Die from the beginning, and it feels like a moving track that will stand the test of time. Other Eilish hits may be seen as more popular, more iconic, or more successful, but I’ll take a powerful and moving piece any day of the week.
