These 3 Leonardo DiCaprio Movie Sequels Need to Happen

Leonardo DiCaprio

Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the best actors on the planet. More than that, he is a legit superstar. It’s rare that you can marry the two, but DiCaprio is a refined actor, but also the type of talent that could carry any Hollywood vehicle.

That may be why it’s not too shocking to learn he has never been big on sequels.

DiCaprio doesn’t revisit material he’s already covered for good reason, but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t. There happen to be a few great Leonardo DiCapario movies that deserve sequels.

Some may make more sense than others, and everyone will have their own opinion on which ones should get a rebuttal. I’ve compiled my own list of the top three Leonardo DiCaprio movies that should get sequels, though.

Inception 2

If just one Leonardo DiCaprio move gets a sequel off of this list, it has to be Inception.

Much like Leo, Christopher Nolan has not been big on sequels in the past, and when it comes to possibly making Inception 2, I actually can see why.

I won’t spoil the movie for those who haven’t seen it, but it leaves us on a bit of a cliffhanger. On one hand, Nolan sets us up to answer it for ourselves. On another, he gives us clues to establish a definitive answer.

Ultimately, though, his cerebral dive into the world of entering people’s dreams ends rather ambiguously.

The ending of Inception is admittedly one of it’s strongest points. However, nobody would be mad about revisiting this world, nor exploring further the reach this idea actually has.

Dicaprio, Tom Hardy, and co. wouldn’t do Inception 2 without Nolan, though, and Nolan is pretty busy these days with some massive projects.

Doing Inception 2 could risk destroying the impact of the original. However, when talking about Leonardo DiCaprio sequels fans would love to see, an Inception sequel undeniably takes the cake.

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Sequel

This is another Leonardo DiCaprio movie sequel we shouldn’t exactly be waiting for, as Quentin Tarantino also isn’t a big sequel guy.

More damaging to the idea, of course, could be the fact that Tarantino has flirted with retirement for years now.

That said, if Tarantino isn’t ready to hang up his camera just yet, he should consider revisiting this awesome world he created.

There’s even some speculation that is precisely what he is doing.

His interpretation of 1970s Hollywood was fascinating and captivating, while he built up serious tension and deflated it with his trademark mash-up of comedy and brutality.

The buddy cop element Leo and Brad Pitt provided was tough to deny, while the story resolves with the main cast still intact.

Maybe a Once Upon a Time in Hollywood sequel would pick up where it left off. Perhaps we get blasted into the 1980s. Who knows?

All I know is I need more of Rick Dalton and Cliff Booth.

Gangs of New York 2

One more Leonardo DiCaprio movie sequel I personally wouldn’t mind seeing is Gangs of New York 2. It’s been over 20 years since the original, and replicating the grit of the period piece would be tough.

There’s also the issue that one of the best character’s in the movie was killed off, and that the story was more than resolved.

Still, there’s a pretty large gap of untold story following the ending, so we could definitely revisit this with an eye on DiCaprio’s Amsterdam Vallon as a middle aged man.

Iconic director Martin Scorsese is another legend who would rather spend his time crafting something new, and it’s fair to wonder if too much time has passed by.

And does the news of a Gangs of New York TV show help or hurt the chances of this sequel ever existing?

The clock is ticking on Scorsese’s involvement, and it’s fair to say Gangs of New York 2 doesn’t happen unless both he and DiCaprio are signed on.

As is the case with most well-received films, there is risk of damaging the original. However, there’s more story to be told here, and fans of the movie would still watch it.

There are a few more Leonardo DiCaprio movies that could get sequels, but these three are at the top of the list for me, personally.
