Alan Ritchson and 6 Jacked Actors That Could Restart the Terminator Franchise Successfully

The Terminator
  • The Rock is an obvious candidate to play The Terminator next, but is he too old?
  • Alan Ritchson Terminator rumors won’t die due to his physique and rising stardom.
  • Chris Hemsworth and Jason Mamoa are other candidates to be The Terminator next.

Back when The Terminator first became a thing, it made a superstar out of Arnold Schwarzenegger. In a very real way, his presence did just as much good for the film itself.

Once the highly anticipated sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, came about, I mean, forget about it.

Iconic lines, insane action sequences, and unforgettable characters ensued. Of course, since those first two Terminator films, the franchise has floundered.

With the topic of AI gaining steam with every passing moment, I thought I’d marry the two ideas. At some point, the Terminator franchise might hit the reset button and someone not named Arnold Schwarzenegger needs to carry the whole thing on his broad shoulders.

Here are 7 ripped actors that could easily be the next Terminator.

1. The Rock

The Rock might be the most jacked actor in Hollywood. He also has plenty of charisma, he’s a solid actor, and he’s made a litany of successful blockbuster hits.

If you want to reboot The Terminator, I’m not sure there is a better option when looking at physical presence, star power, and overall talent. The Rock is the total package and would suit the role perfectly.

The one issue? He’s on the wrong side of 50. The Rock could be the next Terminator, but he’s probably too old to invest in for a full trilogy.

That said, I wouldn’t be mad if he was cast in the lead role of a reboot.

2. Alan Ritchson

Alan Ritchson as The Terminator would be an instant hit. The massive hulk-ish actor One of the best known for breaking out in Reacher is without a doubt one of the top candidates to play The Terminator.

That’s just based on physique alone.

Ritchson isn’t just a good Terminator option because he’s big and has muscles, of course.

He’s a decade younger than The Rock and still somehow in his physical prime, potentially giving him a shot at a good 10 years in this role.

Ritchson is currently wowing everyone as the star in Reacher on Amazon, which basically gives us a look at a human version of The Terminator.

He’s also showcased the ability to kick some ass and also provide some comedic timing, so he very much looks like a fantastic option Hollywood would have to consider.

Ritchson as The Terminator also makes sense due to his ability to dominate an action scene, and look indestructible in the process. Considering he’d be playing a futuristic robot that can’t be killed, that feels important.

3. Chris Hemsworth

Hemsworth is a year younger than Ritchson and is another fantastic candidate to play the new Terminator. Hemsworth is also perhaps the biggest star on this list, and he’s as buff as anyone in Hollywood.

You know him best as Thor, the God of Thunder, but the 39-year old Hemsworth has also carried the Extraction franchise, and has displayed his comedic and emotional depth in numerous other films.

If you want someone with massive star power that is still in their acting prime, Hemsworth has to be near the top of the list of possible new Terminator actors.

4. Jason Momoa

Most of the best options to be the next Terminator are near 40 or over 40. I’ll add Momoa to the list, just because he’s another huge name in Hollywood, and he also happens to have the physique to play the role.

Momoa is now best known for his role as the lead in Aquaman, while he first burst onto the scene in Game of Thrones. He’s now reportedly eyeing another comic book role as Lobo.

This is a talented and physically gifted actor that has a solid resume, and appears to still be in high demand. He’s also no stranger to blockbuster action flicks, nor the idea of taking on tough challenges.

Momoa would be a major shift in casting The Terminator, but he has all the tools to get the job done.

5. Henry Cavill

Another huge name that could play The Terminator is Henry Cavill. He’s also pushing 40, but he’s probably got the best resume of anyone on this list, as he’s played Superman and starred in The Witcher.

There’s a real argument Cavill was the best ever to don the cape and tights, but you can decide when looking over our Superman actor rankings.

Regardless, he is still a brute, and it appears he could have some free time to take on a massive franchise at this point.

Cavill is also a refined actor and has loads of projects being pitched to him, so if a new Terminator franchise is being built, Hollywood would be wise to lock him up ASAP.

6. Jonathan Majors

I said Momoa would be a bit of a curveball when trying to cast the next Terminator actor, and the same applies to Majors. I haven’t seen anywhere that the actor playing this role has to be white, so we really should consider all options.

Majors meets all other criteria. He’s a rising star, he’s an established and talented actor, and the dude is jacked.

Unsure of his acting ability or resume? Get familiar. He displayed some nice dramatic chops in Da 5 Bloods, and he just impressed as Kang in the latest Ant-Man movie.

Majors is the total package, and he’d usher in a whole new era for The Terminator franchise. On top of that, he’s still just 33 years old, perhaps making him the best overall pick to be the next Terminator.

Of course, recent assault allegations could ultimately take him out of the running to be the next Terminator actor.

Who Will Play the Terminator Next?

There are actually not that many viable options to turn to if Hollywood indeed plans on rebooting the Terminator franchise. It has been highly successful in the past, however, so starting from scratch with a familiar model does make good sense.

It could use a twist, however, especially since shedding the connection with an aging Arnold makes obvious sense.

That said, nobody feels more Terminator-y than Ritchson. Alan Ritchson as the Terminator just makes sense. His Amazon show is firmly putting his name on the map, and he’s ready to take on a huge blockbuster franchise.

The Alan Ritchson Terminator rumors won’t die down until he or someone else is cast. That’s what will happen when you’re perfect for a part, after all.

Options are somewhat limited, but I’d also considering going with Majors if he’s cleared of his allegations.

For now, Ritchson looks like a perfect fit to play the Terminator next.
