John Wick 5 Could Reportedly Happen Thanks to Latest Film’s Success

Keanu Reeves
  • John Wick 4 ended ambiguously, but a return to the large screen is far from guaranteed.
  • Keanu Reeves has kept the door open for John Wick 5, but hasn’t confirmed a return.
  • John Wick 5 ultimately doesn’t feel like a pipedream, and may be a matter of time.

Keanu Reeves may not be done killing bad guys in super creative ways just yet. Fresh off of his fourth take on the John Wick franchise, the 58-year old blockbuster star may be ready to suit up for some more action.

Nothing is remotely official, but Hollywood isn’t good at quitting successful movie franchises.

Thanks to the amazing success of John Wick 4, reports are beginning to emerge that yet another installment could be on the horizon.

John Wick 4’s Success Demands Hollywood’s Attention

John Wick 4 has smashed expectations, as it debuted at #1 in all 71 markets and earned a whopping $64 million at the international box office.

Globally, John Wick 4 has already pulled in over $137 million, while the film has also draw rave reviews.

More specifically, it’s literally the best movie in the franchise, with John Wick 4 pulling a stout 94% critic score early on, and the audience (95%) also digging it over at Rotten Tomatoes.

If we’re to judge the possibility of John Wick strictly based off of how John Wick 4 has performed across the board, it seems pretty likely it will happen.

There’s more to this puzzle than the first big piece, though. The movie is making money and is highly touted, but other things need to fall into place.

John Wick 5 May Already Have Been Approved

Due to the resounding success of the John Wick franchise as a whole, the fifth act of this series was technically green lit back in 2020.

Obviously time can change things, but even if John Wick 5 was deemed as a critical or box office failure, it’s arguable they’d consider churning another one out, regardless.

As it turns out, the film was extremely well received and it has already made well more than it originally spent from a budget perspective.

With the studio already interested in another sequel, the immediate success of John Wick 4 suggests it’s very likely we get at least one more movie.

Does the John Wick 4 Ending Change Anything?

For those hoping they don’t run into John Wick 4 spoilers, don’t worry. However, the end of the latest John Wick film does leave things somewhat up in the air.

That could leave Hollywood some wiggle room, as they decide what they’ll do going forward.

John Wick 4 doesn’t have to be the end of the franchise, but things are seemingly set up in a way that if this is it, the series wraps up tightly enough.

Does Keanu Reeves Want to Do Another John Wick Movie?

Hollywood has to be interested in another John Wick sequel. These movies are still making the money, they’re fun to produce, and it’s not like they’re sacrificing art for profit here.

While there certainly is an art to creating cinematic magic in a largely adrenaline-fueled assassin free-for-all, nobody decides to end franchises like this to save face.

The only major question is if Keanu Reeves wants to continue.

I don’t know, I guess I’m going to have to lean on never say never. I mean, I wouldn’t do a John Wick film without Chad Stahelski.

Keanu Reeves on the possibility of doing John Wick 5

That doesn’t sound like someone saying goodbye to a character for good. Not just yet, anyways.

Will There Be a John Wick 5?

Again, John Wick 4 did resolve the storyline and if the franchise decision-makers want to move on, they can end it here and nobody would bat an eye.

However, we don’t ever see Wick dead in the latest film, so it’d be very easy to write him “back to life” in a sense and have another go at it.

Ultimately, I do believe we get a John Wick 5. Reeves is still crushing it in this role, and there is at least one more epic story out there, just waiting to be told.

For now, everyone will have to wonder if John Wick 5 is a possibility.

It isn’t a firm no, though, and given the fact that the most recent installment just went live in theaters, fans will take that as a win.
