  • The Office is one of the greatest TV comedies of all-time and could be ready for a comeback.
  • Cast members of the original series have been teasing a reunion of sorts for years.
  • Former The Office showrunner Greg Daniels has yet to confirm the show’s official revival.

The Office is coming back. Officially. At least that’s what he said.

Original showrunner Greg Daniels, that is.

There has been a lot of chatter about a possible reunion or a full reboot of The Office. It’s still unknown exactly what capacity the hit NBC show will return, but one way or another The Office will be back.

News of a pending The Office reboot broke following the end of the Hollywood writer’s strike, while Daniels is reportedly attached to the series revival.

So, who will be in The Office reboot and when will we see it on the small screen? Let’s find out.

Who Will Be in The Revival of The Office?

Original cast members have previously expressed interest in being part of a revival of The Office, but based on what Daniels has said in the past, a total do-over or variant of the original show is more likely.

I can’t tell whether fans would want more of it, and when I say more of it, I don’t think it would be the same characters.

Whether that means a completely different setting or brand new characters is anyone’s guess. However, the fact that Daniels expressed uncertainty over the response of the audience does deliver mixed signals.

After all, if we wanted more of the same, we have the original episodes of The Office on Peacock to turn to.

If we want something new, perhaps that’s where The Office revival comes in.

Besides, most of the characters we knew and grew to love have gotten a lot older. Plus, their characters may have taken some pretty dark turns in their lives since we last saw them.

I don’t know if it’d have to be that bleak, but it sure would be plenty believable.

The point? A complete “pick up where we left off” or even a “jump forward” probably won’t cut it here.

I can totally buy some cameos of characters still residing “in The Office universe”, but bringing back key cast members may not make sense.

Who Could Be the New Boss in The Office Reboot?

While it’s unclear how much (if any) of the original cast of The Office would return in this potential reboot, one thing everyone is thinking about is who will play the show’s boss.

Obviously Steve Carrell’s take on Michael Scott is iconic, and it’s tough to imagine this series without the back-and-forth dynamic between Dwight and Jim.

The Office may return with a totally new cast in the end, but it will probably still center itself around an oddball boss and his shenanigans.

If true, there are several good choices to play the boss in The Office reboot. Let’s hope the casting decision-makers take the time to get it right.

When Will The Office Return to TV?

That has yet to be determined. The Hollywood writer’s strike literally just ended, and news just broke of The Office reboot being a thing.

It was mere speculation before, but at least we now know it’s actually happening.

Given that the news is only out just now, it’s a fair estimation to assume it’d take a few months for the first season to be curated, and several more months of production before any kind of premier date would be floated around.

Obviously the hype train is running with some serious steam, however, so I wouldn’t rule out a return of The Office at some point late in 2024.

What Will The Office Reboot Be About?

There are no general specifics about what The Office reboot will be about. That was a shoutout to Michael Scott, if you didn’t notice.

But for real, the return of The Office is news that is well received, but it also comes with precious little information.

For the most part, however, appropriate speculation suggests The Office reboot would be some type of variant of the original series.

Perhaps we run into a different branch of Dunder Mifflin. Maybe it’s an all new cast that has taken over the Scranton branch. Or maybe it’s an office in a completely different business and in a different state.

The concept that made The Office work probably won’t change. Literally everything else feels like it’s on the table, however.

Where Can I Watch The Office Now?

While the reboot of The Office hasn’t arrived yet, you can still view all of the original episodes of the hit NBC series on Peacock.

You do have to pay for them, but it’s a small price to pay for “that’s what she said” jokes and an endless loop of Dwight vs. Jim battles.

That doesn’t really solve the question of what comes next with The Office revival, but more information will be out in the not too distant future.

For so long, it was unclear if talk of a reboot of The Office was merely wishful thinking, or if it actually had legs. Now we know The Office reboot is officially on and we can start getting excited about what that could mean for die hard fans.
