- Kit Harrington has pushed HBO decision-makers to do a Jon Snow spin-off series.
- One reason to continue Jon Snow’s character is there is more story to be told.
- A Jon Snow series could appease fans and right the wrongs of Game of Thrones.
Kit Harrington fancies another go at Jon Snow. He’s publicly loathed donning the black locks and being secretive about the character’s future in the past, but word is he wants more.
Don’t we all?
Indeed, we can’t seem to get enough of the GOT realm. That’s why everyone is talking about the possible Jon Snow TV series, among other possible Game of Thrones spin-off shows.
Of all the options, though, a Jon Snow spin-off show is the one that seems to be the closest to happening.
It’s hit some snags, though, so I’ve come to give one final push and announce why the Jon Snow TV series absolutely needs to be made.
His Story Isn’t Over
To be more accurate, the story of Jon Snow may very well just be getting started. Don’t get me wrong, the guy has been through some shit.
Jon Snow has fought numerous battles, he’s been banished to The Night’s Watch, he’s died, and he’s faced off with the Night King – or tried to, at least.
The last we saw him, he murdered the woman he loved to protect Westeros.
He then was allowed to go to the other side of the wall, where he seemingly lives amongst the Wildlings.
The problem? He’s still in his prime and his story clearly doesn’t end there. There is mental turmoil to digest, there is more love to bad had, and there are certainly more battles to be fought.
Jon Snow’s tale could obviously end with an open-ended shrug of the shoulder.
We don’t need to see him die to know that he eventually does. But there’s a massive chunk of story there that we may never know about and desperately want to.
Long Live House Stark
Does a Jon Snow TV series have to only revolve around Jon Snow as an individual person?
No, just like Ted Lasso features a litany of vibrant characters – and why Ted Lasso season 4 should happen – a Jon Snow show could do so much more than anyone gives it credit for.
This could take on many different meanings, and it’d ultimately depend on what stories the HBO showrunners want to tell. But basically anything and anyone tied to Snow from the mothership Game of Thrones series would be fair game.
One big one that we couldn’t ignore? Snow’s attachment to House Stark.
No, he’s not truly a Stark by blood, but he’s forever part of that family. Last we saw, Bran, Arya, and Sansa were all still among the living, so there are a lot of storylines that could bring the family back together.
A Jon Snow spin-off series would be centered around Harrington’s character, but it could branch out and feature any or all of his family members in various capacities.
Is the Long Night Really Over?
This one is a bit of a catch-22 for me. On one hand, I absolutely loved that the trained assassin – and least likely hero – in Arya Stark was the one to deliver the fateful blow that killed the Night King.
The Long Night ended there, and the seemingly fruitless battle with the White Walkers ended. On the other hand, it seemed to end almost a bit too quickly (and maybe too easily).
Could there by a way that the Night King didn’t actually die? Or that he could be brought back? Or that a new Night King is created?
Uh, yeah.
The fact that Snow is heading back past the wall suggests two things; he’s banished from regular civilization, but he’s also being put on ice (so to speak) to keep an eye out for anything that might go bump in the night.
Game of Thrones was overtaken by the White Walkers, but it wasn’t so singular. It was mostly about the march toward the throne, deceit, and relationships.
This Jon Snow series could easily right the wrongs that the original series made with that epic storyline that so many felt flatlined in the end.
Everyone Wants More Game of Thrones
There are good foundational reasons why this Jon Snow TV show should happen.
There is a lot of story left to tell, the character is amazing, and there are so many loose ends with other brilliant characters that could potentially be explored.
But the best reason why HBO should move forward with a Jon Snow spin-off series? Everyone wants it.
Putting a Jon Snow series out there does five things at once:
- Possibly corrects mistakes from GOT
- Appeases fan interest in franchise
- Tells compelling stories
- Brings back a beloved character
- Gives HBO a reliable hit
I’ve covered most of the reasoning already, but some of this is all rolled up into the best reason of all; that a Jon Snow series would be huge for HBO.
Game of Thrones fans aren’t done with this material, and there are several interesting characters that still have a pulse.
HBO also just ended Succession and doesn’t have many current money-makers they can proudly hang their hat on. Bringing Jon Snow back would give them that, and then some.
Ultimately, I do think the Jon Snow show gets made. It might end up being a limited series with just one season, but there is so much potential with this character, as well as where this universe can go.
