5 Actors That Could Replace Ezra Miller as the New Flash

Ezra Miller has played the role of Barry Allen (aka The Flash) for the past seven years. He’s appeared in multiple movies, and just got done carrying a feature film of his own.

By all accounts, the most recent The Flash trailer looks rather good, but Miller’s troubling behavior outside of work sets up an uncertain future for him in the DC Universe.

Naturally, James Gunn and co. could eventually seek out a long-term replacement. While Ezra Miller has been a good The Flash and may continue in that role, at some point someone else will don the red suit.

If and when that happens, here are five suitable options to star as The Flash.

1. Grant Gustin

I am not personally a big believer in handing movie roles to actors simply because they played the same character on TV. In this case, however, I’ll bite.

Unlike some other similar situations, Gustin has smashed the role of Barry Allen and The Flash, and he’s been doing so since 2014.

Hell, we even saw him break our brains when he met Ezra Miller’s Flash.

The main issue to this point has been the fact that The Flash series is part of the Arrowverse, and not what the DC Universe is building now.

However, if the studio ever looks to replace Miller, the search for viable actors who could play the Flash should start with the guy who has played the same character on the small screen.

Gustin isn’t a star on Miller’s level despite his work on the hit show, but he’s still just 33 and obviously makes loads of sense. If you’re wondering who will play The Flash next, all conversations start with Gustin.

2. Dylan O’Brien

If Hollywood moves on from Ezra Miller but opts not to replace him with Gustin, they could seek another star that could be perfect for the part.

That just might be Dylan O’Brien, who is a bigger name than Gustin, and is actually younger at 31. This potential replacement has been floated before, too.

O’Brien has made a name for himself with a big franchise in the past, as he starred in The Maze Runner franchise. He also was good in American Assassin, and has the star power, humor, and raw acting ability to pull this character off.

The Flash needs to be tough, charming, and hilarious. O’Brien has exhibited that blend over the years and has to be near the front of the line for actors who could play the Flash.

3. Taron Egerton

Egerton is another fine choice to be the next Flash actor, as he’s 33 and very much in his acting prime. He’s the biggest movie star on this list of potential Ezra Miller replacements, of course, which may lessen the likelihood of him taking the gig.

Egerton wouldn’t be a difficult sell. He’s a huge star, he has experience in action blockbusters, and he very well may be the most talented actor on this list.

It’s unclear what James Gunn would prefer; sticking with Miller, rebooting with an unknown, or turning to an established superstar.

Recasting The Flash doesn’t have to be difficult, though. Using an actor everyone knows like Egerton would have it’s perks.

4. Joseph Quinn

I’ll be the first to admit that Joseph Quinn isn’t the first name I think of when trying to predict who the next Flash will be. That said, if you’re looking for a charming, disarming, and funny actor that can play a nuanced role, he does fit the bill.

Most will know him for his time on Stranger Things, as he played newcomer Eddie Munson flawlessly.

If he can take over as the next actor to play The Flash and come anything close to that type of perfection, DC fans would end up being blown away.

Does he have the exact look the studio would be looking for? Probably not, but he is certainly a rising star with a bright future, and the talent for him to crush this role is absolutely there.

5. Elliot Page

There are a lot of actors that could replace Ezra Miller as the next Flash. One that you may not be considering originally wasn’t an actor at all, but instead was an actress.

Yes, I’m talking about Elliot Page, who is now filed under the actor category after completing his transitioning. Formerly known as Ellen Page, Elliot hasn’t had many opportunities to flex his muscle as an actor, but it’s high time he gets it.

He’s the oldest option on this list of new Flash candidates at 36, but the stature, demeanor, and look are all spot on.

Seriously, Elliot Page looks a lot like Ezra Miller, and we’ve literally seen him play a superhero before.

Page also played powerless vigilante in Super, so by all accounts, he has the goods to pull this off.

The foundation is there for Page to earn his next big role, and what better than being the next Flash?

Predicting Who Will Play The Flash Next

Ezra Miller is still The Flash. Until DC gives him the full Henry Cavill treatment, that won’t change. After all, he’s a big name, he’s done well in the part, and he’s tried to distance himself from the chaos he’s endured away from his job.

All true, but he’s still piled on a ton of bad PR, and the studio has already pulled the plug on various actors and projects.

There are new decision-makers in town, so cutting Miller loose and finding a replacement for The Flash is not out of the question.

At this point, Dylan O’Brien as The Flash makes too much sense.

He offers the total package the studio will be looking for, and he’s already a big enough star that his arrival would drum up a considerable amount of excitement. Looking for a dark horse option? Don’t ignore Page. He’s due a big acting role, and he’d actually be perfect for the part.
