Lee Child made the character of Jack Reacher famous. Tom Cruise took it to new heights. Then Child reconsidered, and with he and Amazon opting to turn the successful movie franchise into a series, he opted to go big or go home.
That led to the Reacher TV series casting a relative unknown in Alan Ritchson, who looked much more the part.
In fact, Ritchson was overpowering and incredibly composed in almost every situation. He gave off major Bane vibes (think The Dark Knight Rises), but he was still a good guy trying to do the right thing (usually).
Season one was a success, as it scored a 92% rating from the critics, and there’s no doubt a second season is just around the corner.
Wondering what will happen next in the world of Reacher? I’ve got you covered with my Reacher season 2 predictions.
1. Reacher Season 2 Will Be Based on Bad Luck and Trouble
Lee Child has had a tight marriage with this rendition of Reacher, with season one being based on Killing Floor. Per reports, season two will also be based on the books to some degree.
Ritchson was actually the one who spilled the beans, suggesting the second season will be based on Child’s 11th book in the series.
That’s right, season 2 of #ReacherOnPrime will be based on Bad Luck and Trouble (Jack Reacher, #11), written by the legendary Lee Child. Filming will commence this fall.
Alan Ritchson via Twitter
The tweet is no longer available, but consider this more of a report, rather than a full-blown Reacher season 2 prediction.
Of course, it’s fair to assume we shouldn’t fully buy into every single word Ritchson breathed in that original tweet. He originally said filming would pick up in the fall, and reports suggest the show has already been shooting.
That said, Reach season 2 is in the works, and to some degree, should have something to do with the 11th book in the series.
2. Jack Reacher’s Past Will Come Back to Haunt Him
In season one of Reacher we certainly got to learn a bit more about Jack Reacher. We saw some of his upbringing, and we also saw his brother get murdered.
Most of season one was about Reacher uncovering what truly happened to his brother, and in turn taking out the bad guys in the town he was in.
Considering season one of Reacher went back into the past to detail a younger Reacher, it stands to reason that they’ll do it again.
The character of Jack Reacher is more layered and nuanced that many people give him credit for, too. That, and a guy this buff with a history of violence is sure to have made some enemies along the way.
One way or another, Reacher’s past will be brought up again, for better or worse.
3. Characters from Season 1 Will Return
We should have a loose idea as to what the framework of Reacher season two will look like, and my guess is the series further develops his character by pulling at his past a bit more.
Part of Reacher’s past is his immediate past. There’s little reason not to have some callbacks to the season one cast, not only because that gives us some easy allies for our main character, but also because Reacher made some strong relationships.
We also got used to two main characters in Roscoe and Oscar, while Frances was a straight up scene stealer for five episodes.
Of that trio, I think Frances makes the most sense to make a return. Reacher clearly has a bond with her, she has military experience, and I think it’s fair to assume he’ll need to be helped out of a jam at some point.
Reacher season two’s location will almost certainly change, but calling on his former cop pals for some assistance isn’t out of the question, either.
4. Someone Close to Reacher Will Die
There’s nothing like a death close to Jack Reacher to fully motivate him. He really doesn’t have a defined job or mission as things stand. The last time we saw him, he was simply trying to avenge his murdered brother.
In Reacher season 2, it’s quite possible the show asks him to do something similar again.
Could Roscoe or Oscar be gunned down? Could Frances be the one he has to avenge? I sure hope not, but the odds are decent that someone close to Reacher is at least in a lot of trouble, or ends up dead.
It could be that, or perhaps one of those familiar characters from season one simply doesn’t make it out of season two alive.
5. Reacher Will End Up in Jail Again
If there’s one thing we’ve learned, it’s that fighting Reacher one-on-one simply isn’t fair. Reacher also has a penchant for violence and being misunderstood, so it isn’t at all crazy to think he winds up behind bars again.
One of my top Reacher predictions for season two is that he’ll again be jailed, whether due to something he did to get in on purpose, or because someone is out to get him.
Whatever the case, giving us more Reacher vs. the jailhouse vibes is something we all can lust for.
Of course, there are endless Reacher season 2 predictions to be made. But so far, we don’t have enough concrete information to work with, nor a trailer to hype up the return just yet.
For now, my predictions for Reacher season two will have to do. Reacher has already cemented itself amongst the best Alan Ritchson tv shows, and the second installment promises to be even better.
