  • Stranger Things is such a massive hit that fans are hoping future spin-offs continue the story.
  • Potential Stranger Things spin offs include The Mind Flayer, a change in scenery, and more.
  • The show’s time travel theatrics and budding relationships render spin-off ideas endless.

The Stranger Things universe as we know it will come to an end once season five arrives in the not too distant future.

While our favorite band of kids and their specific battle will end, it’s been reported that the Duffer brothers will hope to continue the story in some capacity.

There have been rumors that Millie Bobby Brown won’t be part of whatever comes next, but there are plenty of Stranger Things spin-off ideas for the showrunners to consider.

You can probably search high and low for plenty of potential Stranger Things spin offs, but I’ve got four to quench your thirst.

1. The Mind Flayer Chronicles

There are a lot of different Stranger Things spin-off shows we could conjure up. This one sticks with the source material, as we get to dive deeper into the origins of the all-powerful Mind Flayer.

The Mind Flayer has been one of the nastiest threats Eleven and the gang have had to take on, and the malevolent entity has been around for some time.

Has it terrorized other towns? Or maybe there’s some dark history behind how it came to be? Either way, die hard Stranger Things fans wouldn’t mind a spin-off that explored it’s beginnings.

2. Stranger Things in the Big Apple

This Stranger Things spin-off show idea is a bit less specific. More than anything, it’s simply a change of scenery, which would potentially accomplish one of two things.

  • Take familiar faces onto a bigger stage
  • Reboot Stranger Things in New York City

Stranger Things obviously is based in the small town of Hawkins, but it would be very interesting to see how the story plays out on a much bigger stage.

The crew has already navigated to different cities in hopes of fighting off the evils lurking in the Upside Down, while Hopper was even imprisoned in Russia.

Taking the show to New York could elevate things, and you could do it far in the future with some of the current cast, or make it a true spin-off with a cast reboot.

3. The Hawkins Lab Files

Most Stranger Things spin-off ideas will (and should be) centered around the original story.

That only makes sense, since the thing that made the show so great was it’s tightly nit crew and the fact that all of this madness was happening under everyone’s nose.

So, why don’t we just bring everyone back to where it all started?

That’s right, we could revisit Dr. Brenner and the whole gang at the old Hawkins lab. This would obviously predate the story of Eleven and Vecna, and give us a fun Stranger Things prequel series that leads into all the events we now know happened.

The show could eventually segue into Vecna’s early days in the lab, but more than anything, it’d explore the many different children and their special talents that came first.

4. Eleven: The Lost Years

Another Stranger Things prequel series worth dissecting is an early series based on the life of Eleven. I know, doing an Eleven series without Millie Bobby Brown seems silly, but it’s still a show most Stranger Things fans would eat up.

The downside, beyond not having the star attached to it, may be the fact that Eleven didn’t refine her powers until she got out of the Hawkins lab.

That said, there’s quite a bit of story here, and the show could close up loose ends from Eleven’s already told (but somewhat fuzzy) origin story.

5. Young Hopper

More Stranger Things prequel series can be had, to be sure. In this case, we probably have to find a new actor to play Hopper in his early days as the sheriff of Hawkins.

I don’t know if any stories this Stranger Things spin-off series tells can match up with the Upside Down, but something tells me Hopper has seen some shit in his day.

Replacing David Harbour feels impossible, but it’s not such a daunting task considering the age factor.

The casting would need to be brilliant and the Duffer Brothers would need to keep the show interesting, but a Hopper spin-off would be something I’d personally love to see happening if done right.

6. Stranger Things: Back to the Future

There are Stranger Things TV show ideas that have us changing location or revisiting familiar characters before we knew them.

This idea is more about retooling the franchise in a whole different era.

Yes, you could incorporate a time travel element, but with the original Stranger Things cast only getting older, it does make sense to just completely reboot this thing.

Think Stranger Things: 1970s version.

We got a taste of what the 1980s were, but what if we kicked it back a decade, made it more current, or took this thing back to the wild west?

Changing the timeline and/or location and giving us a whole new cast of kids to root for is certainly one way a Stranger Things spin-off series could be highly successful.

7. The Upside Down Academy

Long after our familiar group has moved along to other things, Hawkins is still sitting there with a patched up passage to the Upside Down.

An interesting story would cover the doorway being re-opened, and a specially crafted academy of detectives tasked with solving a litany of cases stemming from the dark world.

The Upside Down Explained

How the showrunners actually go about this is up for debate, and it wouldn’t have to be in Hawkins.

The idea, of course, is that the Upside Down is no longer something covered up – it’s out there, and there are now detectives at work to make sure the bad stuff in that world doesn’t get in ours.

8. The Adventures of Steve & Robin

Another route to go with the detective Stranger Things spin off idea would be to follow an aging Steve and Robin, possibly as they themselves become actual detectives.

Perhaps they move on to become cops together, or they team up as private investigators. Either way, they’ve shown over time that they are smart, capable, and not afraid of facing great evils.

Whether they team up for more stories dealing with the Upside Down or it’s something else entirely, I can safely say I’m not the only one that would eat up a Stranger Things spin-off featuring these two.

This would make a great series, but could it be even better as a Stranger Things movie? I’d be down for either (or both), to be honest.

9. Nancy (Drew) and Jonathan Byers

The same could go for Nancy and perhaps Jonathan Byers, as well. We’ll obviously have to see how the mothership series wraps up, and there’s at least a couple Will Byers Stranger Things theories that may play a hand in this not being too realistic.

Whether Jonathan is attached to this or not, I want to see more of detective Nancy at work.

Nancy really made a name for herself due to her investigative work, her instincts, and her bravery. Getting a full Stranger Things series spin-off with Nancy running the show would be sublime.

10. Kali & The Hawkins Lab Misfits

My last Stranger Things spin-off idea involves Kali and any/all of the other people out there with hidden talents and abilities.

We got a taste of Eleven’s “brothers and sisters” already, but a lot of fans want more.

Whether it has to be Kali or new characters introduced is a conversation to be had, but the point is we know Eleven isn’t the only special person out there.

The setting and cast would obviously change at least to some degree, but we could stay grounded in the world Stranger Things built.
